Webwatch Meeting 19th January

at

CEIMH

Present

AD: AF: DB-P: SJ: BN: PR: JG

Technical Update

Some links on the Information Page of the Suresearch website direct users to the Homepage of the University website, rather than to the correct page within the Suresearch website. This is because of site maintenance work done by University IT staff.

There is now a link to a folder containing all handouts from each Suresearch meeting. To further improve access to these handouts, it was agreed that each handout should go on the site as an individual PDF document, with a link included in the relevant item within the published Suresearch Minutes. DB-P to Action.

The Suresearch Minutes and all other documentation such as handouts, are now available for download as html or PDF files for members, to save on their own systems.

Using the University Server after October 2010

The advantages and drawbacks of moving to a different server were discussed. There appear to be no issues where content is concerned – the University will not censor us, except for the ban on publicising individual members’ commercial ventures, which we accept.

Because CEIMH will continue in some form within the School of Social Science, we have assumed that the Suresearch files will be retained on the University website after October, but this is not a foregone conclusion.  Final decision may not be taken until April.

In order to run our site in the current form, we need access to PCs with specific software, i.e.  Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Photoshop.  We need to establish where the existing PCs are going and whether we will have access to them.

If we do not stay within the University we would need to find money and other resources to continue to run the website – it would be easier to stay.  But because of the financial crisis, University budgets are vulnerable, and independence might become necessary at some point. Therefore, we need to explore some options for independent funding.

DB-P to Action.

Training with Dreamweaver Software

Four group members want to be trained to help with the website – DB-P to do this on Mondays, beginning with JG and BN.  Dates to be arranged.

Confidentiality

Inpatient Care Forum members no not wish to have their names anonymized in Minutes, others do.  Where it is being done, it needs to be done consistently.

Concern was expressed that some information regarding Suresearch’s future within the university might be sensitive.  We should consider having a password-protected members’ area on the site. These concerns will be raised at the Suresearch meeting on February 4th.

Website Content

Everyone should try to bring a list of links to other sites which will be considered for inclusion on the Suresearch website.

Resources section should include link to Digital Stories.

Reports of research to be added.

Images to liven up the site – BN and DB-P will look at the photos we already have and will select some for the Group to consider. Where necessary, permission will be sought to use them.  New photos will also be taken

SUCITandC is not mentioned on the Suresearch website, nor is there a link to same. As it is a profit making venture for an individual, there will be issues about promoting it on the website.  But it is also a useful offshoot of Suresearch.  We need to take advice re this.
