The Social Work Action Network (SWAN) in collaboration with In Defence of Youth Work will hold its next annual conference in Birmingham from 15th - 16th April 2011. The theme of the conference will be building alliances in the struggle to defend services and challenge austerity measures. The conference will bring together social workers, youth and community practitioners, service users, students and educators to share experiences of this struggle and help to build the movement against austerity which has risen to such prominence in recent weeks with the inspiring resistance of students and young people to education cuts.

We are particularly keen to encourage presentations from those in practice, people who use services, carers and students. Please find attached the call for workshops and seminars which includes details of how to submit your proposal here.

There will be an open meeting for all those interested in helping to organise the conference. This will be on Tuesday 7th December at 6.30pm in the seating area outside room 714, 7th Floor, Muirhead Tower, University of Birmingham. All welcome.

Also, we are planning a W Midlands SWAN meeting early in 2011 on building the resistance to cuts in social work and care. We will send further details shortly.
