CEIMHs Directors August Report
CEIMH will be celebrating its achievements and that of its partners on Wed Oct 6th. Suresearch members have been invited to come to this event to enjoy a relaxing time of reflection, networking and a chance to hear about CEIMHs future when it joins the School of Social Policy in November. Suresearch will be providing displays and exhibits of its own work. AF is asking for volunteers to help him on this alongside contributions of the various sub groups.
The last of the Survivors Research Network’s Birmingham Research Seminars is on Tues Sept 14th( 12 till 2pm) at CEIMH. The Seminar is entitled ‘Affective Community Space and Everyday Risk’ and will be presented by Gerry Bennison, Dawn Talbot and Jo Warner.
Following discussions led by Ann Davis with the School of Social Work office space has been allocated on the 9th floor of the Muirhead Tower for the next academic year should Suresearch want it. This means SS can have a base as well as a travel budget for its meetings over the next year as well as any new projects that may emerge from its collaborative work together. A new job description has been agreed for Helena Madden which allows her time for setting up and preparation for Suresearch main monthly meetings.
Suresearch Website
DB-P reported there had been problems with the software of late and there had been delays in getting minutes onto the SS website. PR suggested that minutes could be sent out directly by e-mail in future to those with computer access and a summarised version of the minutes could go onto the website. This and other important issues will be discussed at Webwatch meeting of Monday Sept 6th (10.30 till 12.30) at CEIMH.
Future of Suresearch
The group has been primarily occupied with writing up an application for a Sustainability & Flexibility grant which would employ a project manager and freelance trainers to offer both beginners/ intermediate and advanced courses in research methods to service users and carers with the goal of successful participants being able to work on equal standing with academics in designing research proposals around mental health issues. It is hoped to complete the writing up of the application at the next Futures meeting on Mon Sept 6th (1.30 to 3.30pm) at CEIMH.
The other main work of the group has been the draft Suresearch Constitution which SJ has worked on and will be introduced in the Review meeting following this one. It will be mailed out to members for their perusal and any suggested amendments should be sent to Adrian Fisher at CEIMH by Sept 23rd. The Futures group will then present the draft Constitution for agreement at meeting of Oct 7th.
Dave Howes has completed the Suresearch Celebratory DVD which will be shown at the end of today’s meetings for members feedback. The promotional DVD is still being worked on and requests for new interested members to get involved was made by DH and BN.
