MINUTES OF SURESEARCH MEETING

Tuesday April 13th, 2010 at CEIMH 

Present:

Adrian, reminded the meeting that the minutes would be published on the website together with any documents circulated to the meeting. If anyone did not want their name or any document submitted to be published, they should inform him.

The need for this disclaimer had become apparent because, on a previous occasion, a handout had been removed from the website at the request of the organisation because it contained a personal email address, but the item was still available from a Google search due to Google's automated activities.

Heart of England Hub

Neither Jackie Smart or Carly Cooper were available to represent HoE Hub. There is a place become available at the Scientific Conference at Bristol April 19th to 21st as a result of Ann Davis’ unavailability. There will be a follow up meeting for facilitators of the February ‘Progressing Collaborative Research’ seminar with Jackie, back from holiday, to discuss taking research ideas forward. 

In Patient Care Forum

Jo Barber updated group on progress on the BSMHFT’s Spirituality Project which she is involved in plus her own Dementia Project. There was no further news on Maureen Smokjis’ ‘Memories from Asylum’ National Lottery Heritage grant application.(see previous minutes on SS website for further info on these).

Writers Group

There will be a display of group’s material at Tenth Anniversary event plus a presentation and poetry readings from Janet and Peter.

CEIMH Directors Report March 2010

The chair read out the report to members. AF highlighted the unusually rich involvement of Suresearch service user involvement at Mental Health in Higher Education Conference at Lancaster at end of March. The evaluation team had worked really hard and were fully appreciated for their efforts. Marion Clark, Anita Patel, Janie Greville and Peter Downes had all contributed papers and workshops; Tracey Holley was involved in planning of event and Ann Davis gave the keynote speech. Web Watch

Tarsem came to last meeting on March 3rd and raised important issues about SS website developing independence away from University’s systems in time. Of more immediate concern is creating a new e-mail address pre-October. Tarsem promoted blog type options. The idea of a members only area to the website accessible only by password was also discussed.

Date of next meeting: Wednesday May 5th following next Suresearch meeting. 

Future of SureSearch

Last meeting was devoted mainly to organisation of Ten Year Celebratory event. There has been fantastic support from members of this group in particular in terms of time planning the event, financial donations and food  contributions and preparation. Plus the presentations, music and poetry. The future use of CEIMH space remains unresolved.

Presentation on research project ‘Effectiveness of Multi-Professional Health Teams’ by Dr. Paul Naylor (Aston Business School)

Paul outlined the programme for this research and various stages in a slide presentation. In particular he was looking for paid volunteers for meeting at Maple House, Birmingham on May 12th and St. Albans Centre, London on May 19th(Phase 1 full day workshops). They will be looking at what an effective team looks like, what it does and what it produces. The second Phase half day workshops will be smaller in numbers, one for service users on June 15th and carers on June 16th both at CEIMH. Phase 3 full day workshops are being planned for Birmingham and London sometime in July. These stage 1 meetings will contribute to the development of a questionnaire for stage 2. Stage 3-In depth interviews phase- and Stage 4-evaluation on Interventions phase will follow in due course.
