Spirituality Project

Pastor Sandra Thomas, Head of Spiritual Care at BSMHFT, has taken early retirement on health groungd and will be officially replaced in November. Training and interventions will both be tested and a member of the Spiritual Care team will be involved clinically. Jo has given this evaluation the name SUSIE=Service User Spiritual Intervention Evaluation.
Jo did a powerpoint presentation at Suresearch’s monthly meeting yesterday and it was well received. She plans to repeat it but before that plans to arrange a Scoping day to be arranged for Mid August to receive more formal feedback . Its important that the project receives validation from all quarters.
The re-application for funding of the pilot project from NHS grants for Patients Benefit has to be in for Sept 24th. Maddie is off work at the moment and Jo needs to see a statistician and Research Design Service. Professor Chris Cook at Durham has been very supportive of Jo and this group offered its support. Jo will e-mail out grant forms to members for advice and support.

Voices From The Asylum Project

Maureen has agreed to meet up with MIND to see if they would accept taking on the financial administration & management of the project. She hopes to put in application to Heritage Lottery Fund shortly.

Advocacy Project

In Alex’s absence this item was held over. Alex is jeen to extend his research beyong Birmingham and plans to approach Suresearch members

Mission Miraculus

Reference was made to MMus’ Road2Recovery Roadshow and the challenge and complexities of engaging with the general public in personal issues around mental distress.

Possible Research Projects

  1. Members raised the problems of seeking Out of Hours Care in distressing  mental health scenarios. We agreed it was worth pursuing this further and discuss it at the next meeting.

  1. Contraband items on acute secure wards was also raised. This related to issues raised by a carer in Worcestershire. The list was unsigned  and members were incredulous at the extent and excessiveness of the listed items. It would be unlikely to get past the European Human Rights Court!. Again this will be discussed further at our next meeting
