SRS Research Scoping Day Thursday August 19th, 2010:

JB announced this event to be held at CEIMH 11am till 3pm. The SRS Scoping Day is part of the larger research programme into Spirituality & Religion conducted by Jo and researcher Maddy Parkes.
Its aim is to validate a new scale that helps measure recovery-the Spiritual Recovery Scale(SRS) and to understand what Users and Survivors feel is important to them for their recovery, particularly around Spirituality.
Jo and the group agreed a draft programme for the event with approximate times:

11.00  Welcome and liquid refreshments
11.30  Workshops-Participants break into small groups and describe what spirituality means to them personally. People are encouraged to bring along an object or photograph or whatever that represents their own idea of Spirituality.
12.00 Ideas to be recorded on Flip Chart paper and fed back to Whole group for discussion
12.30 Jo to outline her understanding of Spirituality in its widest sense and speak of her project with Qa & As at end
1.00 Lunch
2.00 Looking at the Spiritual scale. Participants will be asked to contribute individual feedback on how questions are phrased and rate them for ease of understanding and relevance to Spiritual Well Being  but also will be encouraged to fill in questionaire on the day. There will then follow feedback to the whole group and recorded on a flip chart.
2.45 Conclusion and feedback on the day

Jo asked for facilitators/recorders for the small group workshops: PR, SJ, JG and JJ offered to help. Jo will raise it at August Suresearch meeting tomorrow and seek 2-3 more helpers.
PR offered to promote the event amongst Spiritual Interest group on Worcestershire attached to WMHT.

Spirituality pilot Project funding  application:

JB has been in touch with Research Development Service re. working up her application and Maddie Parkes  has been dealing with financial calculations.
If successful the project will last 3 years, employ 2 research assistants and possibly Professor Chris Cook half-a- day a week.
It is hoped Maddie, who has been a wonderful support for Jo, will want to stay on with the project whilst doing her M.Res

In recognition of her outstanding voluntary work Jo has been granted Honorary Worker status with BSMHFT.

Voices From The Asylum project:

MS has met with MIND, Birmingham and they have agreed to financially manage project if the application for funding from the National Lottery Heritage fund is successful. The bid will be for £49998. Someone from this group will be asked to support application. It will be 18 month project with a Project Manager employed 2 days a week and admin assistant half a day a week. There will be a steering committee with this group being asked first. The result of the bid should be known 10 weeks after submission. MS hopes to get application in by end of the year. She will be using experience gained from working on her Polish project to her advantage. As the project is not strictly research it will not need Ethical approval.

Preceptorship Training:

MS is working on a recovery session and asked the group if they wished to produce Digital Stories around the theme of ’Journey of Recovery/What helps me to stay Ok’. All the group offered to participate. PR to ask Tracey if she wished to. Two days have been set aside to create them:
Tuesday Aug 10th 10 till 2pm
Wednesday August 25th 10 till 2pm
Participants may wish to prepare their scripts/choose images beforehand. The sessions will be paid for plus travel expenses.
