Thursday April 22, 2010 at CEIMH

Present:

Paul Roberts (Chair/mins), AnnDavis, Alex Davis, Adrian Fisher, Duncan Purslow, Paul Ormerod, Barbara Norden, Stephen Jeffreys, Anne Lloyd, Janie Greville, David Howes, Dave Blastock

Apologies:

Peter Downes, Alice Woodall, Marion Clark.

Tenth Anniversary Celebration event April 13th

There has been excellent feedback on the organisation and content of the day. Members were reminded ' to pat themselves on the back'’. Working together so effectively augurs well for Surearch’s future continuance. Marion looked forward to Suresearch Eleventh Anniversary event!

Update on CEIMH:

Ann Davis confirmed CEIMH will move to the School of Social Policy in Muirhead Tower on Nov 1st. Staff on existing University contracts have been offered posts in the School of Social Policy, other CEIMH staff are actively seeking posts elsewhere. The CEIMH website will continue as will the studio; service user involvement in this will be essential. Negotiations are taking place with the School about office space for Suresearch.

The current CEIMH space will be taken over by Beeline, a University educational enhancement project. This means that there will be no meeting facilities available in the current CEIMH space  for any of the Schools at UoB who teach mental health or any outside organisations, this leaves Suresearch with no office space .

Ann Davis is negotiating with the School of Social Policy about the posibility of having a Suresearch presence . .The group asked Ann to explore options on office space & use of facilities (including computers anda telephone line); use and availability of rooms large enough to host  Suresearch monthly meetings together with the costs of refreshments and travel expenses for members.

Paul McDonald, Research Manager at BSMHFT, has made an offer to host monthly meetings with free refreshments and other (unnamed) support.  The group agreed to invite Paul along to the next Future of Suresearch meeting to explore this further.

What we need to have in place from November 1st?

We briefly revisited and touched on the various voluntary positions required for Suresearch to continue as a functioning organisation from November 1st. This would include secretarial duties like responding to phone and e-mail messages, administering database, administering website, Mailing out minutes, Chairing and minute taking of monthly meetings to name but a few.

Contact E-Mail address:

Adrian pointed out that from October 31st  a new e-mail address for enquiries is needed. The group said that any new e-mail address  should include the name ‘suresearch’ and suggested different options for Adrian to pursue. It also needed volunteers to view and respond to messages. Adrian said he would continue to do this  and Barbara also offered her services, other members agreed to consider their position on this for next meeting.

Website Servicing:

Webwatch are looking at gaining independence from the UoB internet loop and are pursuing options around alternatives to Dream Weaver and free hosting of Website (Blog?) with advice from Tarsem.

DVD:

The meeting had a general discussion on the DVD project so far, based on the viewing of the interim DVD on april 13th. Interested individuals agreed to meet on Wednesday April 28th at 10.30 to discuss its completion. Dave suggested we look at the possibility of  producing two or three DVD's of the ten years history, the celebratory event and a promotional DVD aimed at potential funders. It was recognised that as this goes outside of the original proposal for funding, it raises issues that need to be addressed.

Training :

Duncan reminded the group that Heart of England Hub wished to support Suresearch through specific training funding.

Date of Next Meeting:

Tuesday May 11th, 2010 in Seminar room 3 at CEIMH.

NB: Paul McDonald will be present.
